Today I had the honor of leading a workshop at the annual SharePoint Saturday Cincinnati event. It was a wonderful event and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
My workshop did not only showcase the business value of doing in-house usability testing but also taught the basics of setting a usability test setup and recommended the tools and resources needed to make DIY usability testing accessible to everyone.
The most important key-takeaways from this presentation are:
- Test as early as possible: The easiest problems to fix are the ones you haven’t created yet! Usability testing can start as early as drawing on the back of a napkin.
- Test everything: existing products, wireframes, prototypes, etc.
- Watch, don’t assume! Ask question, but don’t guide.
